Teen-ager Marieme lives with her mother, sisters and older brother in a French suburb. The bleak aspects of her world, starting with life in a concrete ghetto controlled by gangs and drug dealers, and ending with the color of her skin, leave her with few expectations for her future. When she must repeat a grade at school, she meets three girls who impress her with their spontaneity, energy and appetite for fun. Lady, Adiatou and Fila show Marieme that she doesn’t have to obey the rules dictated by the male-dominated world of the suburban ghetto. This is a coming-of-age film about growing up in the Parisian projects and the desire to live life with dignity.
