Children are a universal topic. Everyone is someone’s child or, more to the point, someone’s parent. We all talk about our children and are constantly living within the limits which our own parents have set for us. Jaro Voytek, originally a documentary film director, has created a feature film made up of four parts, about children and parents who are striving to care for each other but, at the same time, are struggling with the pressures of their often insensitive surroundings. The similarities and differences of their stories, which each take place in a different season, create a layered mosaic of relationships. The characters discover love, hope and the inevitability of important decisions. Vojtek’s directing is extremely authentic and strong and the film’s cast surpasses any from recent years in the world of Czech or Slovak productions.
